CITRENZ Workshops

Workshops on Saturday October 11th. All welcome

This page outlines the CITRENZ Workshops available as part of ITx, New Zealand's conference of IT.

These workshops are open to everyone, and will be held at Whitireia New Zealand, Level 2, 450 Queen Street, Auckland


 

Workshop 1:
Post graduate teaching in the ITP environment

9am-12:30pm - Michael Verhaart & Allan Fowler

This workshop will include studies of what is working, what is not working, challenges and will create a community of practice for those involved in post graduate teaching in the ITP sector.

Cost: $70 incl GST, including lunch. Registration details below.

 

Workshop 2:
Introduction to Programming with VEX IQ Robot C

9am-12:30pm - Rob Oliver & Amit Sarkar

This workshop will cover the basic concepts of programming using VEX IQ Robot C.  This is an ideal option for introducing new students to programming.  It will cover commands, sequence of commands, intermediate concepts such as program flow model, simple (wait for) sensor behaviours, decision-making structures and loops.  If time permits it will also cover problem-solving strategies, teamwork, switches, building solutions to real-world problems that can be used in teaching introductory programming.

Workshop 3:
Upgrading your conference paper to a journal paper

1pm-4pm - Tony & Alison Clear

This workshop will look at the requirements to upgrade a conference paper to the meet the publishing requirements of a journal.  Participants will be asked to bring a current recently published conference paper that they wish to submit to a journal.

Workshop 4:
Teaching Networking using the CISCO curriculum

1pm-4pm- Ian Patterson

With changes to the Networking diploma on the horizon, many of these key topics can be taught in conjunction with Cisco's Packet Tracer (PT) software application.  This hands-on workshop will involve participants working with the latest version of PT (version 6.1.0.0120) to build and configure networks.  Participants will use packet inspection and interrogation tools to troubleshoot routing and switching issues. Topics will include (but not limited to): IPv4, IPv6, routing protocols, switching protocols, SSH, NAT, NTP, DHCP and DNS, ACLs, Syslog, NetFlow, SNMP, MIB and more.

Workshop 5:
Developing Programmes of Study post-MROQ

9am-4:30pm - Samuel Mann

This workshop will review the strawman programmes of study CITRENZ has developed to meet the needs of the new IT Landscape of Qualifications.  The workshop will briefly recap the MRoQ/TRoQ process and how CITRENZ has collaboratively developed a new suite of programmes of study.  The workshop will confirm each programme of study and the process of joint application for accreditation in late October/early November.

Cost: One FREE person per Institution, $120 incl GST per additional person. Includes lunch. Registration details below.
